The starting build for a 1st level character in the Umbra campaign setting is fairly standard. Ability scores are determined using the purchase method of a "standard fantasy" campaign, which is 15 points. The table to buy ability score points is on pg. 16 of the Pathfinder Core Rulebook, Table 1-1: Ability Score Costs. Optionally it is reproduced in a web format right here.
All base character race (human, elf, half-elf, half-orc, gnome, dwarf, halfling) are permitted and all base classes from the Core Rulebook and Advanced Player's Guide. No additional materials besides the Core Rulebook, Advanced Player's Guide, and Umbra source materials may be used in character creation or for future character development except when expressly permitted by the GM.
All characters must choose a non-evil alignment. All deities are available for worship by the characters except evil-aligned deities.
The characters may choose (if they qualify) one regional trait to complement their character. Each character also automatically receives a second regional trait...
You hail from the reclusive, night-fearing country of Umbra.
Benefit: You gain a +10 on Survival checks to avoid being lost in Umbra when in sight of a river or mountain. You are also hardwired to know time, and can guess the exact time within 5 minutes while in Umbra and in view of the daytime sky.
No other traits are permitted outside of the Additional Traits feat. The Additional Traits feat does not allow a character to choose additional regional traits.
